Smalls
This is a better pic of the compote shown on the front page. It is American, made of walnut, has a great folky look, and nice old crackly surface. I'm guessing it was made mid 19th century. It is 11 1/4" in diameter and 8 1/2" tall. Because its fairly shallow, it would show off all of your stone fruit perfectly, none hidden down inside. Price is $650.
Here are two hard to find stone vegetables, a stone onion and a stone baby artichoke. SOLD
Here is something really nice and rare, a miniature mortar and pestle in origianal red paint. The surface is niced and dry, the paint is the only surface, and the wood I think is maple. The size 3 1/4" diameter and 6 1/2" tall including the pestle. Email me if you need additional pics of the wear on the bottom, or ?. Price is $275. Would be nice paired up with the normal size red mortar and pestle also shown on the smalls page.
Another mini mortar and pestle from the same collection. This one is nice and early, nice dry old surface, plenty of wear and patina. I'm not sure if these were used for spices or drugs or what, but they definately were used. Size is 2" diameter, 7" tall including pestle, wood is maple. Price is $175.
This is a hard to find item, a nice old wedding band hogscraper, so called because the decorative brass band around the middle looks like a wedding band. These are frequently faked, as it would be sort of easy to add a piece of brass to the middle, but the new solder usually shows. This one is real and right, signed, and a nice tall 8 1/2". Price is $475.
Here is a nice pair of black tin sconces. Nice tombstone shape, crimped along the upper edge, nice decorative crease up each side, nice old dry paint, just slightly different as they would be if they are made by hand. These are good period sconces, not the later ones, date to mid 19th century. Price is $525 for the pair.
Here is another great American piece of treen. This treen plate is maple, has traces of brownish paint or ?, and is very out of round as you can see. If I remember it is about 8" in diameter, and the price is $325. Email me for exact dimensions, good pics of the back and profile, and so on.

Here is a really great piece of early lighting. I am calling it a make-do candleholder. It has a real, early wrought iron candle cup thrust into a turned wood base. It has a great old ashy finish, never had anything else. The back side has a long crack, and the top has some damage you can see to the edge. But overall a great looking piece. Price is $495.

The other one is also American, great shallow form, nice old washed surface, with a neat hole where an old patch was, also ex Betty Darrow. This one looks like modern art to me. Size is 15" diameter x 4" deep. Priced at $1,850.

Here is a nice stack of three soldier blue pantry boxes from the same home. These three were I think overpainted with salmon at some time, and almost all of that has worn off with time and use, no removers or whatever used. You see little tiny bits of the salmon throughout, and on the top of the top smallest box. I think the blue paint had all worn off the top of the smallest box from use, and the salmon paint stuck to the raw wood. Anyhow, they are a very pretty threesome, a great old dry blue paint, only tiny damage here and there. All early nails, no repairs, no staples. Price is $830 for the three
Here is a wonderful old silhouette, I love it because of the relationship of the size of the sihouette to the size of the frame. Wonderful period frame, origianl hanging loop in brass on the back, and also hand written info on the back about the sitter. Size is 3 1/2" diameter, price is $275.
Not a great picture, but a really nice early ship diorama. Its the only one I've ever seen with little birds flying in the sky. Really nice little stool, in original green paint, circa 1840s. Found in Virginia, but my guess is it was made further north. I love the carved scroll on the ends, unusual and nice. The piece of wooly fabric tacked to the top seems similar to the fabrics woven by the Shakers, the colors are mustard and old red. Price is $225.
Here is a wonderful small hand drawn image of a rose. Looks like its drawn and colored in colored inks, maybe by a schoolchild, much folded and treasured. We framed it in a nice period lemon gold frame. Price is $225. Mid 19th century image and frame.
I love this early sampler with the image of the house. How American! Can't quite make out the child's name or the date. Size is 16 3/4" x 13". SOLD.
What a great doll! I think its supposed to be George Washington. Lovely hand painted and molded face, out of what I don't know. The body is stuffed with rags, the clothes are hand sewn, and look at the wear on his feet. Found in Virginia, how appropriate. Almost impossible to date, not new by any means, but not 200 years old either, so I'm just guessing at about 100 years old. Price is $225.
Great little mirror for you wall. I think it originally hung from its string on a tent pole for a military person, and the back is inscribed Col. Darlington, 1834. Great grungy old surface. SOLD

What was the little box used for originaly? It had a hinged top, but some years now it has been used as a wood sconce. Great old attic surface. Price is $245.
This is probably the best punched tin wallbox I've ever seen, has both a star and a heart. In great condition, this one came out of a collection in PA about 45 years ago. Price is $895.
I think this was a sewing box, it has holes on the front for thread, and spool holders on the inside. Great crusty brownish red paint, with black detailing, and just a little loss on the top where it was handled. It has great cutouts in wood added on, not carved into. Very like an applique quilt design. Now this is what I call folk art. Found in Hudson River valley area of NY. Price is $425.
